Our Visit to Dahlak Eritrean Restaurant & Bar

240 22 St E, Saskatoon

Cuisine: Eritrean

Date: Oct 9, 2022

Spent: $13 per person (average)

Did you know that the Dahlak Archipelago is an island group located in the Red Sea and Eritrea is a northeast African country? It shares borders with Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti.

We visited the restaurant without any expectation and left satisfied with our adventurous selves.

Meat Lovers Platter Meat Lovers Platter $25.95
Served with spicy and non-spicy tibs, served with injera, shareable with two.

We later learned that Injera is a sour fermented pancake-like flatbread with a slightly spongy texture, traditionally made of teff flour. The taste of the Injera was exactly as described. The platter had three other sides:

  • a boiled egg and a chicken drumstick
  • beef pieces cooked with onions, red and green bell peppers
  • a small salad of lettuce, tomatoes and red onion

We were told that Eritreans typically eat with their hands, so that's what we did! 😁

We received complimentary coffee at the end of the meal accompanied by buttered popcorn (a tradition in Eritrea). She did a live serving of pouring the coffee and adding sugar at our table and then served it. Both the coffee and the popcorn was a great way to end our meal.
