Our Visit to Mi Casa Restaurante

622 Circle Dr E, Saskatoon

Cuisine: Mexican

Date: Mar 11, 2023

Spent: $18 per person (average)

UPDATED ON SEPT 13, 2023: MI CASA RESTAURANTE IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED. 😭

We stumbled upon this restaurant while searching for something to eat near the Off-Leash Recreation Area Sutherland. Such a hidden gem just off Circle Drive East!

What we ordered:

Combo One Combo One (pupusa, taco and pastel), $16

We get to choose 2 sides for the combo. We chose fries and refried beans. The pupusa (handmade corn tortilla) was soft and fluffy and had cheese fillings. Taco was also tasty with generous toppings. It was our first time eating Pastel and we found the crust a little hard but the filling was tasty.

In case you are like us, having little knowledge about Latin American food, you don't need to worry! The menu is informative and has a description of what they are. Sorry, we did not take a photo of the menu.

Combo Two Combo Two (tamal, pupusa and flauta), $16

The salad and refried beans are the sides we chose for this combo. According to the menu, Tamal is a Salvadorean dish prepared with stewed chicken and vegetables in tomato salsa with unique spices derived from El-Savador. The stew is then blended and comboned into corn mixture wrapped in banana leaf and steamed. It was also our first time eating Tamal and we liked it very much. The Flauta tasted very similar to Pastel, not sure if it is the same thing but shaped differently.

A closer look at Tamal after removing the banana leaf.

There were definitely a few other items on the menu that we wish to try. They look absolutely delicious and we've never seen them elsewhere.

We were stuffed with the two combos and we didn't even order any drinks. We'll most likely order their churros on our next visit here.
